PCA/CNA/HHA

An individual who, under professional supervision, provides assistance with nutritional and environmental support, personal hygiene, feeding, and dressing.

Qualifications:

• Valid Massachusetts HHA—Home Health Aide Certificate or CNA License.
• Physical within the past 6-12 months.
• PPD within the past 12 months or chest x-ray within 5 years.
• One year of experience in a working environment—willing to give professional references.
• Speaks, reads, and writes and is able to communicate effectively in English.
• Reliable vehicle with valid driver's license and possession of liability insurance.
• CPR certification (optional).
• Must have a criminal background check.
• Completion of our application process.

Specific ADLs to CNA/HHA

• Personal Care—Bathing, Grooming/Dressing, Toileting.
• Nail care.
• Range of motion.
• Ambulation assist.
• Oral feeding.
• Medication assistance/reminder.
• Transfers—use of mechanical lifting devices (Hoyer) if needed.
• Vital sign checks—temperature, pulse, and blood pressure.
• Home management tasks—laundry, bed making, and meal preparation.
• Light Housekeeping—ensure client space/environment is always clean.
• Reports any changes in the client’s condition to the agency manager.
• Completes Daily Activity Records and accurately documents the care provided.

Companion

The Companion is a paraprofessional, providing services in the home for clients under the direct supervision of a qualified supervisor. Companion services include support, encouragement, companionship, respite breaks for family or caregivers, and provision of and instruction in reporting of changes in the client’s situation. The companion is assigned to a client by the coordinator and follows a written plan of service.

Qualifications:

• High school graduate
• At least one (1) year of working as a companion or life experience in a working environment
• Use of an automobile with possession of liability insurance is desirable.
• Must be able to read, write in English, and follow instructions.
• Selected on the basis of such factors as an interest in people, tact, a history of emotional stability, dependability in employment, neatness in appearance and practices, and good judgment.
• Must have a Certified Nursing Assistant license or Home Health Aide certification.
• Preferred CPR certification.

Homemaker

The homemaker is a paraprofessional employee, trained to provide home maintenance services for clients under the direct supervision of the supervisor. Homemaking services include dietary management, household services essential to the client’s health and well-being, and provision of and instruction in reporting of signs, symptoms, and/or changes in the client’s condition. The homemaker is assigned to a client by the coordinator and is given a written plan of service.

Qualifications:

• Successful completion of at least 20 hours of generic training to be completed by the end of the 6th month of employment (can be done by shadowing/precepting) or verification of homemaking services provided in the community equivalent to 40 hours
• Use of an automobile with possession of liability insurance is desirable.
• Must be able to read, write, and follow instructions in English.
• One year of work experience.
• Must have a criminal background check.
• Must have current CPR certification.
